Kate started piping as a young adult.  Piping and drumming was an interest to her family because their of Scottish heritage and Kate, along with her twin sister Anne who is a side drummer,  played in the London City Police Pipe Band, Strathroy Legion Pipe Band, and most recently in the RCMP E Division Pipes and Drums.

Kate started her piping in the early 70's and was taught by Pat Dawson of the Vancouver Ladies Pipe Band.  Moving back to London Ontario she continued with lessons with Jim Scott, a well known piper and piping judge in Ontario.

Kate was a member of the London City Police Pipe Band for two years in southern Ontario in the mid 70’s.  During that time, the band toured with other Ontario police pipe bands, conducting an evening Tattoo at various cities throughout southern Ontario.

Kate then went on to compete with the Strathroy Legion Pipe Band at the Grade 4 level in 1980.   In 1981, the Strathroy Pipe Band won both the Canadian Supreme at

the Maxwell Highland Games and North American Championships for Grade 4 in Alma Michigan.  The band was elevated to the Grade 3 level the following year where Kate and the band continued their competitive ways.

Like many in our band, Kate took time away from piping and drumming to raise her family.  After a 15 year break Kate decided to  return the piping and joined the RCMP E Division Pipes and Drums in 2008.

Kate is a keen participant in the band and helps with many of the behind-the-scenes organizational duties as well.
